One of our valued customers who owned a beautiful weatherboard home in the Central Coast of Sydney was keen to add value to his home and open up his outdoor area.
His main criteria was a door that would open right up to let in light, breeze and transform his backyard into a great entertaining area.
He loved the idea of the classic and elegant bifold doors but was concerned about their weight.
This is often not an issue for brick homes, but as his home was weatherboard the exterior wall did not have the same strength as a brick build.
SHIELD’s signature bifold doors (and windows) are top hung, so ensuring that the top beam of your frame is strong enough to support the door is essential. These doors aren’t light – our smallest bifold door is a 2110H by 1810W weighs approximately 145 kg and our biggest standard size bifold door is 2360H by 5410W weighs around 480 kg!
However, we knew our customer was keen on the elegant bifold solution so we worked with his builders to discuss how we could make this happen!

So, once he knew his weatherboard could hold the weight of a bifold door, we finalised size and colour choices and our customer decided to install a matte silver aluminium double glazed bifold door in 2.1 high x 3.6 wide.
THE FINAL LOOK? An elegant solution that opened up both his living room and outdoor area. He was thrilled with the results, and we know he will be enjoying big family barbeques in this beautiful outdoor entertaining area for years to come!
A bifold door of this size has one sash on the left (when viewed from the outside looking in) and it can lean against the wall for 180 degrees. Three sashes fold to the right and it sticks out a 90 degree angle. This versatile design can give you an instant FRENCH DOOR when the independent sash and the first (of the 3 sashes) is unlatched while the 2 sashes are locked together!
